DADE CITY, Fla. — The Drake men's golf team won its final match over Dayton, 3-2-1 to place third in the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event hosted by Ball State at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club on Tuesday (Feb. 8).
The day started with Toledo finalizing a 4-1-1 victory in the second round after play on Monday (Feb. 7) was suspended due to darkness when
Lucas Scherf and
Jack Dumas still had to finish up. Lukas Clark of Toledo held off Scherf and Jamie Tofte Nielsen forced a tie with Dumas.
Tim Lim (3&1) and Dumas (3&2) won decisively at the top two positions. Scherf fell to Kyle Schmidt (2UP).
Nick Pittman tied for the second time of the tournament against Hayden Zimmerer.
Silvester Tan lost to Ryan Clements (1UP) as
Nikko Ganas helped push Drake over the top with a victory over Ethan Snyder (1UP). As the 5-seed Bulldogs snagged third place with the 3-2-1 decision over the Flyers. No. 2 seed Eastern Michigan beat Toledo, 4-2 in the final match to claim the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play title.
Up next for Drake men's golf is the Loyola (Md.) Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz., Feb. 20-22.
