TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA – The Drake women's basketball team used an explosive second half to defeat Indiana State 86-71 in its final game of the regular season.
The Bulldogs struggled to get past the Sycamores defense in the first half. Drake outscored Indiana State in the second quarter but was unable to minimize their lead completely.
Going into halftime, Indiana State held an eight-point lead over the Bulldogs. The Sycamores held an initial lead of 15, but Drake's 20 second quarter points held make it a single digit.
Coming out of halftime, the Bulldogs were hot, shooting 75 percent and outrebounding the Sycamores.
Freshman guard
Katie Dinnebier had a career afternoon as she scored 20 points, beating her previous career high by one. She also led the team in three-point shooting as she finished with three made.
Dinnebier was a key factor for the Bulldogs in the second half as she was hot shooting ( 13 points) and drew two offensive fouls from the Sycamores.
The Bulldogs starting forwards, junior
Maggie Bair and redshirt-junior
Grace Berg, also played a key role in the team's explosive second half.
Bair found herself in found trouble in the first half as she picked up two. She scored only two points in the first half for Drake.
She scored 10 points in the second half for Drake and grabbed a total of seven rebounds.
Berg scored four points in the first half before adding 10 in the second to finish with 14. She was one of three Bulldogs to recorded five assists in their time on the court.
The Sycamores were led by Del'Janae Williams who finished with 17 points, three assists, and three steals in her 33 minutes on the floor.
Junior guard
Megan Meyer added 16 points for the Bulldogs, including nine in the second half. She added seven rebounds and five assists to the books.
The Bulldogs return to Des Moines before heading to Moline, Ill. for Hoops in the Heartland which begins on March 10.
