GRAND FORKS, North Dakota -- The Drake University men's tennis team conquered North Dakota, 6-1, Saturday evening to finish regular season play and earn the number two spot in the Summit League Conference tournament.
The Bulldogs opened the evening with two wins in doubles play. The deciding match for the doubles point came down to
Matija Matic and
Evan Fragistas, who defeated their opponets 7-6.
Matt Clegg picked up the Bulldogs second point when he defeated Dylan Leeman 6-3, 6-4.
Jeremy Schifris, Matic, and
Evan Fragistas picked up the next three points for Drake to lead 5-0.
North Dakota picked up its only point due to an injury retirement by a Bulldog.
Reid Jarvis picked up the Bulldogs final point when he defeated Riley Odell in the third set 6-4.
The Bulldogs finish regular season play 4-1 and earned the No. 2 spot heading into the Summit League Championship. Drake earned the No. 2 spot after defeating the Fighting Hawks Saturday afternoon to finish ahead of them in the standings.
They are set to face No. 3 North Dakota for a second time on Friday April 22 at 6pm in Omaha Neb. The winner of the match will then face with No.1 Denver or No. 4 Illinois State on Saturday April 23 at 3pm.
