OMAHA, Nebraska -- Redshirt junior
Evan Fragistas of the Drake University men's tennis team clinched the win in the Summit League Championship over No. 1 seed Denver, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in Omaha.
The Bulldogs started off the match earning the point in doubles play after winning courts one and two.
Denver scored it's first point on court one after James Davis defeated
Matija Matic, 6-3, 6-1.
The Bulldogs earned the next two points after winning on courts four and five in singles action.
Denver earned its second point on court six after Charlie Miller defeated
Matt Clegg, 6-2, 7-5.
Nicolas Herrea Cuesta tied the match, 3-3, after he defeated
Jeremy Schifris 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 on court two.
Similar to the two teams first meeting, the final point came down to a match between Fragistas and Matt Summers. Fraagistas made a come back in the third set after trailing 5-2 and ended up winning 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. He secured the final point for the Bulldogs to win 4-3 over Denver and become the 2022 Summit League Championions.
The last time the Bulldogs won the Summit League Tournament was in 2019 -- the tournament was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The Bulldogs earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and await to see who their first opponent will be.
