DES MOINES, Iowa – Aziz Jdai was victorious in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase in the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Drake University at Drake Stadium on Saturday, May 14. The Drake men's track & field team currently sits in fourth place overall in the team standings with 50 points.
With a time of 8:51.20, Jdai became the fastest and first Drake student-athlete to win the men's 3000m steeplechase at the MVC Championships since Robert McCann won in 8:43.00 in 2016.
On the women's side of the 3000m steeplechase,
Brooke Mullins had a fifth place finish for four team points registering a time of 10:44.36.
In the men's long jump,
Cloud Masibhera finished in seventh place with a jump of 23 feet two and a half inches.
Chandler Haight also took seventh in the women's shot put (46-8).
Maria Patron qualified for Sunday's final in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.40 in the prelims. Freshman
Caleb Lerus set a personal record of 48.36 in the prelims to move onto the final of the men's 400m dash. Another PR was notched by
Angelo Romagna when he completed the men's 400m hurdles in 53.04 while neck-and-neck with
David Olowookere (53.05). Both Romagna and Olowookere qualified for the finals.
Busiwa Asinga claimed first place in the women's 400m hurdles prelims after collecting a season-best of 1:00.38. Freshman
Madison Bunton will join her in Sunday's final after turning in a time of 1:03.21.
The final day of the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be Sunday, May 15 as field events are slated to start at 11:30 a.m. with running events getting under way at 1 p.m.
