Men's Soccer Preview: Milwaukee & Lindenwood

Bulldogs to finish road swing at Panthers, open up home schedule vs. Lions

The Basics
The Drake men's soccer team continues its non-conference campaign with the final installment of a five-game road stretch at Milwaukee at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 before hosting Lindenwood for the 2022 home opener at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
 
Familiar Faces
In the Bulldogs' first draw of the season against Omaha, Drake goal-scorers AJ Franklin and Sam Thornton connected, each with a goal and an assist. The two graduate students continued their chemistry on the pitch from their pre-Drake days when both players were standouts at Marquette. 
 
Burke Building in Goal
Bulldog goalkeeper Jonathan Burke, a grad transfer from Eastern Illinois, recorded a season-high six saves in Drake's draw at Omaha on Tuesday.
  
Scouting Milwaukee
Milwaukee played to a 9-8-1 record in 2021 and saw their season come to an end in the second round of Horizon League Tournament. The Panthers are currently 1-3 on the 2022 season with their lone victory coming by over Wisconsin on Sept. 1 by a 2-1 margin. Logan Farrington leads the Panther offense with two goals while Abdu Regassa and David Cox each have one.
 
Milwaukee is coached by Kris Kelderman in his 11th season at the helm. Kelderman has amassed exactly 100 wins in his tenure including an 89-73-25 mark for the Panthers.
 
Series History vs. Milwaukee
The Panthers lead the all-time series with Drake by a 4-3-1 margin dating back to the 2005 season. Milwaukee has won the last two matchups including a 2-1 tilt in Milwaukee last year. The Bulldogs' most recent victory came on the road in 2016 by a 3-2 score.
 
Scouting Lindenwood
The Lions have recently begun a historic athletic year for entire Lindenwood community. 2022 marks the first year at the NCAA Division I level for Lindenwood after transitioning upwards from the Division II ranks. The Lions' men's soccer team is currently 0-2 with a pair of shutout losses to start the season. Lindenwood's most recently loss came at fellow MVC opponent Missouri State.
 
Lindenwood's Carl Hutter is in his 29th year in charge of the Lions' program and 40th year as an NCAA head coach. Hutter holds a 360-169-46 overall record, nearly all of which coming against Division II competition.
 
Series History vs. Lindenwood
Tuesday's matchup featuring Lindenwood and the Bulldogs will be the first-ever between the two programs.
