Men's Basketball Preview: UIC

Fresh off Saturday's win over Murray State, Drake men's basketball returns to the road for a Tuesday tilt at UIC.

The Basics
The Drake men's basketball team heads back on the road for a 7 p.m. tipoff at UIC on Tuesday, Jan. 10 inside Credit Union 1 Arena.

Tuesday night's game at UIC will be streamed live on ESPN+ with play-by-play broadcaster Andy Masur and analyst David Kaplan.

Scouting UIC
The Flames (9-8, 1-5) are on a three-game losing streak after falling 80-60 at Indiana State on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Sophomore forward Filip Skobalj (12 points) and graduate studnet guard Tre Anderson (11 points, 4 assists each scored in double figures in the loss to the Sycamores. Sophomore guard Jace Carter reeled in a team-best seven rebounds last Saturday.
 
Carter is UIC's leader scorer averaging 15.2 points per game and shooting from the field at a .450 clip. Junior guard Toby Okani paces the Flames in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game while putting up 12.2 points a night. Okani also leads UIC in blocked shots with 21.
 
UIC joined the MVC in July of 2022 after having previously competed in the Horizon League. The Flames were picked to finish 11th in the 2022-23 MVC Preseason Poll.
 
Former Michigan and Texas assistant Luke Yaklich is in his third season as the head coach of UIC men's basketball with a 32-37 overall record.

Series vs. UIC
Drake leads the all-time series, 8-2.

Drake won earlier this season against UIC at the Knapp Center, 77-64, back on Dec. 3.

The Bulldogs have won three straight games over the Flames dating back to 2013.
 
The Magic Number is 80
Drake men's basketball has a 46-1 record under head coach Darian DeVries when scoring 80 points or more following the 82-64 victory against Murray State last Saturday.
 
500 Assists at Drake
After dishing out four assists against Murray State on Sunday, graduate student guard and Drake's all-time assists leader Roman Penn surpassed 500 assists (501) in his Drake playing career since transferring from Siena.
