Men's Soccer Preview: Bowling Green & Michigan State

Bulldog to split next two match in and out of MVC play

The Basics
Drake men's soccer is on the home stretch of the regular season, and will host Bowling Green on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Mediacom Stadium for the final home match of the regular season and will then play at Michigan State in a non-conference tilt on Friday, Oct. 27.
 
Bulldogs by the Numbers
Drake is currently 3-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in league play. The Bulldogs at home are 3-1-2 in Des Moines, including a 2-0 win over St. Thomas in the opening match at Mediacom Stadium. They hold a winless 0-7 record on the road.
 
AJ Franklin leads the Bulldogs in multiple categories including points (13), goals (6), shots (31), and shots on goal (19). Damian Segura has lent a major helping hand with a team-high four assists on the season to date.
 
 In goal, Drake has featured three different keepers. Quinn Millerd has the most appearances, with five starts and six appearances. He has allowed eight goals and made 12 saves. Kevin Qi began the year as Drake's top goalkeeper and has logged 10 saves with eight goals allowed. Tommy Williams has allowed 12 goals but has 13 saves.
 
Scouting Bowling Green
One of three newcomers to The Valley this season, Bowling Green is fifth in the conference standings with a 6-5-3 overall record and a 3-2 mark in MVC action. The Falcons are coming off a win against UIC on Wednesday, Oct 18, with a score of 3-1. Bowling Green has been two different teams, home and away; they are unbeaten at home with a record of 6-0-1 but are winless on the road with a mark of 0-5-2. This will be an away game for the Falcons.
 
Trace Terry leads the Falcons with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Additionally, Alberto Anaya and Eli Shope have each earned nine points, with the former tied with Terry for the team lead in assists (5).
 
Brendan Graves has been in net for all 14 of Bowling Green's matches so far, allowing 20 goals with 71 saves.
 
Sunday will mark the first meeting between Drake and Bowling Green.
 
Scouting Michigan State
Michigan State will put their unbeaten record of 6-0-6 on the line this weekend. The Spartans sit at second in the Big Ten standings with a 2-0-4 record in conference play, behind only Northwestern. The Spartans drew in their last two matches, a scoreless tie vs. Michigan and 2-2 draw against Maryland. Their last victory came on Friday, Oct 6 in a 3-1 over the Wisconsin Badgers.
 
Jonathan Stout and Sean Kerrigan have led the Spartans, each having eight points and four goals in their 12 games. Jeremy Sharp has contributed with four assists.
 
Zac Kelly has been the goaltender in all 12 games, and has allowed just nine goals, with 45 saves.
 
The Spartans and Bulldogs' men's soccer teams have never played before.

The Bulldogs have one regular season game remaining, which will take place Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Missouri State, at 6:00 pm.
