Drake Women Represented by Four Individuals at MVC Awards Banquet

Anna Miller collects pair of specialty awards, Maggie Bair brings in First Team honors to highlight Drake accolades

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team produced four honorees at the Missouri Valley Conference postseason awards banquet this evening. The Bulldogs' recipients included Anna Miller with two specialty awards and three other standout student-athletes.

Miller, a sophomore forward from Rochester, Minn., collected both the MVC Sixth Player of the Year award and MVC Defensive Player of the Year award. She averages 6.3 rebounds per game while leading Drake and ranking second in The Valley with 65 blocks, good enough for a 2.3 bpg average. Her 65 total rejections currently tank third all-time on Drake's single-season blocks list. Miller joins Sammie Bachrodt (2018, 2019) as the only two Drake players to win the Defensive Player of the Year honor.

Anna Miller also qualified for the league's Sixth Player of the Year honor with just five total starts on the year. She has played 559 minutes in 28 games and is one of four Bulldogs to average double-digit points with 10.0 per game so far this season on a 56.3% field goal rate. For this honor, Miller became the third Bulldog to collect the award, joining Drake star Sara Rhine, a two-time winner (2016, 2018), and current battery-mate Maggie Bair (2021).

Bair represented Drake at this year's league awards ceremony as the Bulldogs' lone member of the All-MVC First Team. She adds that honor to last season's All-MVC Honorable Mention status.

Guard Katie Dinnebier joined Miller on the MVC All-Defensive Team, the first instance of multiple Drake players being awarded that distinction since Bachrodt and Lizzie Wendell did so in in the 2016-17 season.

Dinnebier, along with graduate forward Grace Berg, also earned Third Team All-MVC honors. Berg adds the Third-Team recognition to a handful of previous conference awards including back-to-back First Team honors (2020-22) and 2021 Newcomer of the Year.

These four Bulldogs, and the remainder of the Drake club, will begin their run at a postseason championship on Friday, Mar. 10 at the Hoops in the Heartland MVC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs will face off against the winner of the first-round matchup between Missouri State and Bradley at 2:30 p.m.
