World’s Best Highlight Drake Relays 400m Hurdles, Steeplechase Fields

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Dalilah Muhammad, a two-time Olympic medalist in the women's 400-meter hurdles and former world record holder, is set to return to the site of her record-setting performance in two weeks at the Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom.

Muhammad's return to Drake Stadium headlines three fields the Drake Relays announced today that include not only the women's 400-meter hurdles but the men's 400-meter hurdles and the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The women's 400-meter hurdles is scheduled for 2:03 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, the men's is to follow at 2:07 p.m. and the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase is Friday, April 28 at 7:50 p.m.

Those three fields feature athletes from more than a dozen nations, two Olympic medalists, 11 Olympians, 10 World Championship qualifiers, and four national record holders.

"The 400-meter hurdles has consistently been one of the most thrilling events on the Blue Oval, and this year will be no different," said Blake Boldon, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays. "Having a defending Relays champion of Dalilah's caliber return speaks volumes to the reputation this event has earned. And she'll be challenged by three other women that have run faster than 54 seconds, including Ashley Spencer, Gianna Woodruff, Anna Cockrell and Tia-Adana Belle."

Spencer, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and 2019 World Championships finalist is appearing in her fourth Drake Relays while Cockrell is coming off seventh-place finishes as the most recent Olympics and World Championships.

The men's field is equally impressive as two of the top three from last year's field, David Kendziera and Khallifah Rosser, return looking for their first professional Drake Relays title with Rosser coming off a fifth-place finish at last year's World Championship.

C.J. Allen, the 2019 Drake Relays champion, also returns to the Blue Oval, as does Jamaica's Kemar Mowatt. For the first time in three years, the race will be without two-time defending Relays champion and reigning World Champion Alison Dos Santos, who is recovering from injury, setting the stage for a new champion to be crowned.

"The men's 400-meter hurdles at the Drake Relays has continued to thrill our fans year after year with incredible performances from some of the biggest names in the sport and the next generation of talent," Boldon said. "We anticipate this will be another performance that our fans remember and adds to the rich history of this event at the Drake Relays."

The women's 3,000-meter steeplechase is set to include Olympians Adva Cohen (Israel), Simone Ponte Ferraz (Brazil) and Alicja Konieczek (Poland). All three were also World Championship qualifiers, as was Briell Erbacher (Australia). Cohen won the collegiate race at the 2018 Drake Relays while representing Iowa Central Community College, while Konieczek finished fourth in the Drake Relays invitational race in 2021.

Fans of the Drake Relays unable to attend in person will be able to watch a live broadcast of America's Athletic Classic thanks to a partnership between RunnerSpace.com and USATF.TV. Beginning with the first event Wednesday of the 113th Drake Relays presented by Xtream, powered by Mediacom, and continuing through the final race Saturday, with the exception of 2-4 p.m. Saturday, RunnerSpace+ will air this year's action. All events from the 25+ total hours of live streaming on USATF.TV will also be available for on-demand viewing.
