CHICAGO, Ill. – The Drake men's soccer team fell to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in MVC play following a road loss to UIC (7-1-1, 2-0-0). Saturday's match marked the third time this season that Drake has allowed at least four scores.
The Flames got off to a blazing start, scoring in the second minute of the contest. Bart Muns dribbled down the far side of the field and fired into the bottom left of the net to give UIC an early advantage.
Muns continued his hot start in the 18th minute, depositing another ball into the net in second goal of the match. Joshua Torres assisted Muns to give UIC a 2-0 lead.
Andres Moreno continued the UIC onslaught in the 34th minute, ripping a shot from beyond the 18-yard box and placing it in the top right corner of the net past the diving Drake keeper. Muns, looking to secure a hat-trick, fired a shot that was blocked. The ball rolled out to the scoring Moreno and Muns was credited with the assist. UIC took their 3-0 lead into the half.
UIC added their fourth goal of the game in the 72nd minute when Muns, headed the ball off a corner kick to Oskar Greven for his first goal of the year.
The Flames outshot Drake 15-7 overall and 8-1 in attempts on goal. The Bulldogs' lone shot on target was attempted by
Damian Segura.
Tommy Williams and
Quinn Millerd split time in goal, each collecting two saves.
"Credit to UIC," Drake head coach Pat Flinn said. "They beat us in every way tonight. We will take a look in the mirror and figure out what we need to do to start moving in the right direction again."
Drake's MVC schedule continues with another road match next weekend. The Bulldogs will visit Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday, Oct. 1.
