WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Drake men's golf concluded its hosting duties of the Zach Johnson Invitational at Glen Oaks Country Club (Par 71) on Tuesday (Sept. 26) with the Bulldogs in eighth place out of 13 teams with a combined 54-hole score of 586 (302-284-298--884).
"We had a rough first round with too many big numbers," head coach
Matt Lewis said. "I was proud how the guys bounced back in round two. We had a good game plan going into today and I thought we gave ourselves a ton of good chances. Unfortunately, we didn't putt well today. We couldn't convert on our birdie opportunities and made too many three putts. It just wasn't our day."
Jack Dumas (74-68-76--218) finished in a tie for 23rd to lead all Drake golfers.
Nate Spear (74-72-75--221) wound up just outside of the Top-30 tied for 31st. Freshman
Emil Riegger (77-73-75--225) was the next to turn his card in for the Bulldogs followed by
Toby Webb (77-71-79--227).
Nikko Ganas (81-77-72--230) improved through every stage of the tournament.
Silvester Tan (74-76-73--223) led Drake's individual competitors.
Dylan Drogemuller (70-78-76--224) and
Jake Weissenburger (71-76-79--226) both completed their first Zach Johnson Invitational appearances.
The Bulldogs will play host to UNI in a dual on Oct. 4 at Des Moines Country Club.
