Blake Boldon Selected as Chairperson of NCAA Track & Field and Cross Country Committee

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays was recently selected to serve as the chairperson of the NCAA Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Committee for the 2023-24 season.
 
Boldon, who has served as a member of the NCAA committee during the past three seasons, will now be the point person with responsibilities of directing all aspects of the group. He will organize and manage the committee's monthly meetings and serve as a speaking agent and representative for the NCAA at championship events. In addition, Boldon will lead the committee through numerous decision making processes including championship selections, championship policies and host site selections. 
 
"It is a tremendous honor to continue to serve student-athletes, coaches and all those invested in NCAA Division I track and field and cross country in this role as committee chair," said Boldon. "I would like to thank the previous chair, Ervin Lewis of North Florida, Jeff Mlynski of the NCAA, in addition to all other current and past committee members and NCAA staff for sharing their leadership, knowledge and experiences to help me to feel prepared for my final year on the committee."
 
The NCAA Championship events that the committee will oversee this season include the 2023 Cross Country Championship on November 18  in Charlottesville, Va., the 2024 Indoor Track & Field Championship on March 8-9 in Boston, Mass., the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field First Round on May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky. (East First Rounds) and Fayetteville, Ark. (West First Rounds). The season is capped by the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Championship on June 5-8in Eugene, Ore.
 
"From Blake's work with coordinating and executing the historic Drake Relays, to his consistent support and roles within the national governing body at USA Track & Field, to his solid roots and leadership within the NCAA, Blake is among one of the most well-respected individuals within the sports of cross country and track and field," said said Jeff Mlynski, NCAA Associate Director of Championships and Alliances. "His leadership has been strongly on display throughout his tenure on the committee and we are excited for him to serve as chair of the committee throughout this upcoming year."
