RIVERSIDE, Iowa – Freshman
Emil Riegger continued to excel in his collegiate debut as the Drake men's golf moved up a spot in the final standings at the ANF Fall Classic hosted by Iowa at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course (Par 72) on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
The Bulldogs finished sixth as a team (284-299-296—873, +15). Iowa State (278-282-300--860) held on to win the tournament. As a team, Drake recorded 13 birdies and five eagles.
"We can take away many positives from our first tournament," head coach
Matt Lewis said. "Emil (Riegger) had an awesome debut, to finish tied for fifth on that course with that field was impressive. Jack (Dumas) and Nikko (Ganas) also had solid tournaments. It was a great gauge for our team playing in tough conditions on a challenging course. It was also good to finish ahead of both of the MVC teams competing."
Riegger (72-70-72—214, -2) was consistent through all three rounds to end up in a tie for fifth.
Jack Dumas (69-74-72—220, +4) and Nikko
Ganas (70-78-72—220, +4) both shot even par in the final round to tie for 19
th overall and record their first Top-20 finishes of the season.
Silvester Tan (73-77-80—230, +14) and Jake
Weissenburger (78-86-75—239, +23) rounded out the Bulldog lineup as Weissenburger improved his second round score by 11 strokes.
Nate Spear (72-79-81—232, +16) competed as an individual.
Drake men's golf will compete next at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Kansas State Sept. 17-18.
