BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Drake men's soccer team traveled to Bowling Green, Ohio for a meeting with second-year Missouri Valley Conference squad Bowling Green on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs and Falcons went toe-to-toe for the full 90 minutes without a goal as each team earned a point with a 0-0 draw.
"Road conference points are huge," Drake head coach
Pat Flinn said. "[Playing] at Bowling Green is a real grind. [The Falcons] have a great track record at home. I'm proud of the collective effort and commitment from everyone tonight. Tomas [Butkovic], the back four, and Kai [Knuchel] were especially strong."
Drake had the upper hand in first-half shots, 3-2, and seemed to be comfortable with the pace of play and tempo of the match. All three of Drake's first half attempts were on goal, and all three results in saves by Bowling Green keeper Brendan Graves.
The Falcons matched Drake's intensity after the halftime hiatus as both teams managed six shots apiece over the final 45 minutes. Drake eventually won the shots battle 9-8 and the shots on goal race 4-2, but still could not find of the net.
Preston Kipnusu led the Bulldogs with three total shots, one of which came in the 82nd minute.
Erich Legut also fired off two shots for Drake while Bowling Green's Trace Terry led the match with four attempts.
Graves finished the contest with just those three first half saves while Drake's
Tomas Butkovic had two.
The Bulldogs will stay on the road for their next match as they travel to rival Bradley on Saturday, Oct. 19.
