Men's Soccer Preview: Western Michigan & Bowling Green

Bulldog set for matchup versus ranked foe, two-straight road matches

The Basics 
The Drake University men's soccer will be taking on Western Michigan on Oct. 5 and Bowling Green on Oct. 12 in the next week of matchups. The Dogs will host the Broncos at 2 p.m. and the following week will be traveling to Ohio for another challenging tilt against the Falcons.  
 
Bulldogs by the numbers 
The Bulldogs currently sit with a 6-3-1 overall record and a 2-0 conference record. Drake also boasts a perfect 4-0 home record, which will be tested against 11th-ranked WMU. The Bulldogs recently rattled off six straight game without loss before that streak was snapped in the non-conference finale at Milwaukee (Oct. 1). Their most recent home game resulted in a 4-0 blowout win over Belmont.

Scouting Western Michigan 
The Broncos are going into this game with a 7-0-4 record overall and coming off a 7-0 rout of Olivet. The Broncos are 1-0-2 in conference play and have the same record on the road. Their last MVC contest came on Sep. 28 vs. Missouri State, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Drake is winless all-time vs. Western Michigan with four losses in as many matches. This will be the second meeting between WMU and the Bulldogs in Des Moines, with the first coming in 2017.

Scouting Bowling Green 
The Falcons are coming into this weekend with an impressive 8-1-1 record and an undefeated 3-0-0 conference mark. Bowling Green has a 5-0 home record and is riding a five-game unbeaten streak dating back to early September. They are coming off a 1-0 defeat of Belmont and a 5-0 thrashing of Eastern Illinois in their last two games. Bowling Green will visit UIC (Oct. 5) and host Detroit Mercy (Oct. 8) before welcoming Drake to town.
 
Last year's tilt between Bowling Green and Drake was the first-ever matchup featuring the two teams. Drake lost that contest, 3-1, in Des Moines.
