Des Moines, IA - The Bulldogs finished their fall season at home but dropped the race to Creighton. Drake and Creighton have faced head-to-head for over 30 years, and they compete for a trophy. Despite the loss, the Bulldog novice eight won its race.
 
"We were very happy with the team today," said Head Coach Charlie DiSilvestro. "We were disappointed that we didn't win the trophy, but we're proud of them for how well they raced and how disciplined they raced today."
 
The race in Des Moines isn't a full 2,000-meter course, so they race 600 meters in best two-of-three fashion. The first varsity four, the first varsity eight and the second varsity eight all lost their first two races, but DiSIlvestro said the team followed the race plan well.
 
"The main thing was to finish the fall racing season showing that we can follow a race plan and be disciplined enough to race at a set pace, which was something we had struggled with in the past," DiSilvestro said. "Today, they did a really great job of locking into their base rate and staying very competitive."
 
The Novice Eight rowed against two Creighton boats and finished first in both races. The boat was rowed by Isabella SIlva, Liliana Magnuson, Lucy Grizzle, Skyler Duke, Brynna West, Hailey Castelar, Hanses, Caroline Pooler and Kellan Holland. They notched times of 1:45.4 and 1:50.8 on the 600-meter course. The second varsity four also won its second race, finishing with a 1:53.2 time.
 
"It was a great race for our novice 8— very exciting," DiSilvestro said. "Winning both of their races by very close margins. Our second varsity four won their second race in very strong fashion. All the rest of our boats competed very hard and came off the water feeling they gave it their best shot, and I know what we need to do in the indoor season to get us ready for the spring."
