DES MOINES, Iowa - The Bulldogs concluded their three-week home stand with a 4-3 victory over Creighton. Drake won two doubles matches to secure the first point of the match, then iced the contest with three wins in singles play.
"Tough match for us today," Head Coach
Ben Lott said. "Not being at full playing strength has been a challenge through the early portion of the season. Full credit to Creighton. We got the job done today, but we also know there are a lot of areas we need to develop to get to where want to be as a collective. Next weekend's matches against Indiana and Purdue are going to be great tests for us as our first road matches."
The Bulldogs began the day with two doubles victories.
Matija Matic and
Oliver Johansson defeated Kirtan Patel and Matthew Lanahan 7-6 in an evenly-matched fight.
Matt Clegg and
Ben Johnson were challenged by Shin Inoue and Zachary Kuo but scraped out a 7-5 win.
Markus Bolin and
Jeremy Schifris fell to Alejandro Gandini and Yuma Daijima 7-5 in the final doubles slot.
An
Olle Sonesson Lidholt win in straight sets marked the first singles contest to conclude. The match finished in 45 minutes, with Sonesson Lidholt shutting out Ethan Neil 6-0 in both sets. Schifris then won in straight sets in the number one singles slot. Schifris controlled his match over Patel to conclude with 6-2 victories in both sets. Creighton narrowed the gap by winning singles matches against Matic, Clegg and Johnson. Bolin's singles match then became the decider between Drake and Creighton, and he delivered Drake the win. Bolin battled against Alejandro Gandini in both sets but came away with 7-6 and 7-5 wins and a victory in straight sets.
