Drake men's tennis has another match on tap in Oklahoma, this time versus the ITA No. 47 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The match will begin on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 6 p.m.
 
Bulldogs by the Numbers
The Bulldogs hold an 8-5 record coming into play against the Sooners. Drake, however, is 2-4 on the road. Drake's road losses have come against Indiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa, which are all ITA-ranked opponents. Drake's most recent match was a 1-6 loss to Tulsa on Friday, Mar. 8.
 
Matija Matic and Oliver Johansson spearhead the Bulldog doubles attack. The ITA No. 61 ranked duo has gone 7-4 in 2024, which leads the Bulldogs. Markus Bolin's 9-3 solo record leads Drake in singles play. The Bulldogs are a combined 20-15 in doubles and 36-34 in singles in 2024. 
 
Scouting the Competition
The 10-2 Sooners are ranked No. 21 by ITA and have dominated to an 8-0 record at home. Oklahoma's two losses came against No. 6 ranked Tennessee and No. 22 ranked Florida State. The Sooners are on a three-game win streak heading into the competition against Drake. Their recent wins have come against Cornell, San Diego, and VCU.
 
Oklahoma's first position in doubles play is occupied by the No. 47-ranked duo of Alex Martinez and Khololwam Montsi. For the second straight match, Matic and Johansson are slated to face a ranked duo in the top doubles showdown. Martinez is also Oklahoma's singles ace, competing in the top position. Martinez's efforts have earned him the No. 54 rank in the country. In Oklahoma's last match, Martinez defeated VCU's No. 41-ranked Mathis Bondaz in straight sets.
 
Drake is winless against Sooner men's tennis. In four career meetings, Oklahoma has come out victorious each time. The teams faced once in 2023, and Oklahoma won 6-1.
