Men's Tennis Preview: Omaha

The Bulldogs will close out the regular season in Omaha on Saturday.

The Basics
The Bulldogs will close out their regular season on Saturday, April 13 at 6 p.m. playing on the road against Summit League opponent Omaha University.

Bulldogs by the Numbers
The Bulldogs are 9-8 on the season and an even 2-2 in Summit League play. The Bulldogs have had astounding success at home, but have run into difficulties on the road this season, holding a 2-6 record outside of Des Moines. After a stretch of road matches, Drake snapped a four-game losing streak last time out against Oral Roberts. The Bulldogs downed the Golden Eagles 7-0 to close out their season in the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic returned as the Bulldogs' top duo against Denver and Oral Roberts. The pair leads the team with an 8-6 doubles record in 2024 and they have spent time on the ITA doubles rankings. The two won their last match 6-1 against Oral Roberts after dropping their match against Denver. Markus Bolin has held the top singles record for Drake all season and his dominance continued last weekend. Bolin won his singles matches against Denver and Oral Roberts, bringing his record to 12-3 in 2024.

Scouting the Competition
The Omaha Mavericks have a positive 12-10 overall record but a losing 1-3 Summit League record. The Mavericks' sole conference win came over Oral Roberts – the last-place team in the conference. Omaha is right above Oral Roberts in the standings, sitting in fifth place out of six teams in the conference.

Quintan Van Wijk competes in the top singles position for the Mavericks. Van Wijk lost his last match in Omaha's battle against Denver but won the match before that against his Oral Roberts opponent. Van Wijk teamed up with Ryoma Mishiro in Omaha's last match to compete in the top doubles position. The duo took their Denver opponent to a tiebreaker but ultimately lost 7-5.

Drake men's tennis is 6-1 against Omaha. The two schools have competed against each other regularly since 2017, and Drake has dominated the in-conference matchup. The Bulldogs won 7-0 in the previous two games against the Mavericks

Up Next
The Bulldogs will compete for the Summit League Championship in Waukee, Iowa ranging from Friday, April 19 to Saturday, April 20.
