Des Moines, IA - Drake men's tennis split two matches to go 1-1 on the weekend at home. They lost against the undefeated No. 40 ITA-ranked Denver Pioneers 5-2 on Friday but bounced back to win 7-0 against Oral Roberts on Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Summit League.
 
Denver 5, Drake 2
The Pioneers edged out the Bulldogs in the doubles point to open Drake's senior night. Marvin Schaber and Daniel Sancho Arbizu defeated Matt Clegg and Markus Bolin 6-2 to give the Pioneers an early advantage. Jeremy Schifris and Olle Sonesson Lidholt quickly evened the contest with a 6-2 victory over Anish Sriniketh and Rikuto Yamaguchi. Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and Raffaello Papajcik finished the doubles duels by taking down Matija Matic and Oliver Johansson 6-4, giving Denver the doubles point. 
 
Denver took a swift 2-0 match lead after Sriniketh defeated Clegg in straight sets. Matic and Schifris also lost their matches in straight sets to give Denver a 4-0 lead and the match victory. The teams played on, and Sonesson Lidholt secured a straight-sets win. He took down Charlie Miller 6-2 and 6-3 to get the Bulldogs on the board. Bolin also won his singles match in straight sets, taking down Papajcik 7-5 and 6-1. Johansson battled hard against Schaber but lost 6-4 and 7-6 in a tiebreaker.
 
"Hard fought match today at home against an undefeated Denver team," Drake Coach Breaunna Addison said. "It wasn't the result we wanted, but the fight of these men paired with the outpouring of support from the Des Moines community was truly heartwarming. This will be a day these seniors remember for the rest of their lives, and we thank you all for being a part of it. With that being said we forward to a meeting tomorrow against Oral Roberts. As a collective we looked more like the Championship level team we are known to be, and I'm confident we will carry this with us the rest of the season. The Dogs are back, and they are barking louder than ever!"

The Bulldogs followed their loss to Denver with a commanding 7-0 win over Oral Roberts. Matic and Johansson got back in the win column with a 6-1 rout of Gustavo Pinho and Elijah Brewer. One minute later, Sonesson Lidholt and Will Ecklund delivered Drake the doubles point with a 6-2 win.
 
The Bulldogs went on to win each singles match in straight sets. Standout performances came from Johansson, Sonesson Lidholt and Ben Johnson. Johansson won 6-1, 6-1 in the top singles position, Sonesson Lidholt won 6-0, 6-2 in the fifth position and Johnson won 6-1, 6-0 in the final singles position.
