Iowa City, IA - The Bulldogs' tune-up race against Iowa was cut short due to winds and storms moving through Iowa City, but they were able to finish half of the races before it was shut down.
"The team performed really well," Head Coach
Charlie DiSilvestro said. "Unfortunately, we were only able to get in one of the 1000 meter pieces but it was the right call with the weather."
The river in Iowa City wasn't long enough for a full 2000-meter race, so it was going to be split into two 1000-meter races for each boat. The Bulldogs raced all of their boats once before the contest was cut short. They raced two varsity fours and two varsity eights against the Iowa boats.
"All the boats saw a significant change in speed because we raced on the same course as we did last fall when we raced Iowa on their 1000-meter course," DiSilvestro said. "All of the boats saw great improvement from last fall."
The second varsity four finished in 5:00.4, the first varsity four finished in 4:44.68, the first varsity eight finished in 3:53.10 and the second varsity eight finished in 4:07.77.
"We're going to work really hard next week, and then start tapering down for conference, which is during finals week," DiSilvestro said. "So we want them to focus on rowing when they're in the boat and focus on their classes when they're out of the boat."
