ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Senior Nate Spear of Drake men's golf has been tabbed as the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced.

Spear recorded his best finish of the season tying for fifth place the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational earlier this week.  He shot rounds of 72-68-71 for a 5-under, 211, while leading Drake to a fourth-place team finish in the 17-team field.

En route to his second round of 68, Spear tallied six birdies on the back nine to come in with a 30 over those nine holes. Among the field, the Burlington, Iowa native tied for fourth in scoring average on Par 4's at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational recording a 3.87 average score.

Drake will take the next couple of weeks off before returning to competition in its final event of the fall at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate from Powells Point, N.C., Oct. 26-28.
