Scouting Buena Vista
The Beavers are in the beginning stages of their season and have gone 1-1 over their first two games taking a loss to the College of St. Scholastica and defeating Minnesota-Morris at the Central Bank Classic. Last season, Buena Vista went 12-13 overall and 5-11 in league play. It missed out on the conference tournament by just one game, and eight of those 13 losses last season came by eight points or less. This season, Buena Vista was picked to finish seventh in the American Rivers Conference Preseason Men's Basketball Coaches Poll.
The Beavers are under the leadership of first-year head coach, Jeff Horner. Horner, a former standout player at the University of Iowa, takes over the program this season after having spent the previous seven years as head coach at DII Truman State University where he went 121-78 overall.
Friday is the second all-time meeting between Drake and Buena Vista. The only prior matchup between the Bulldogs and the Beavers occurred on Nov. 8, 2018, with Drake winning by score of 98-52 from Des Moines.
