The Basics
The Bulldogs have one match on tap this weekend at 5 p.m. on Friday in Bloomington, Indiana against Indiana University.
Bulldogs by the Numbers
Drake men's tennis is 3-5 on the year, currently looking to break a three-game skid. Last weekend the Bulldogs hosted Creighton and lost 1-6. Despite the Creighton loss, Drake has been better at home than on the road, with a 1-3 road record. The solo road win was over Marquette.
Recently, the Bulldogs have shown some impressive individual performances. Two weeks in a row,
Ben Johnson and
Will Ecklund have won Summit League Doubles Peak Team of the Week, and Ecklund won Singles Player of the Week after the Creighton match.
Drake's last road match was on Feb. 2 against a different Big 10 opponent, Wisconsin. So after a brief one-game stint at home, the Bulldogs are packing their bags and hitting the road.
Scouting the Competition
The Hoosiers come into play with a pristine 6-0 record, with five wins at home. Their last match was on Friday, Feb. 7, and they won at Middle Tennesee 4-3. Indiana had another tight affair against Ball State in mid-January but pulled through 4-3.
Facundo Yunis competes in the top singles position for Indiana. The Redshirt sophomore is from Munich, Germany, and he'll look to bounce back from a loss last time out against Middle Tennessee. Yunis was placed on the Big Ten Men's Tennis Players to Watch list ahead of the Spring season.
Drake holds a 3-2 advantage over Indiana all-time, but Indiana has captured wins in the previous two meetings. Last season these two teams met in Bloomington — although Drake's team is much different now — and Indiana won 4-0.
Up Next
Drake will head to Cincinnati, Ohio for a match at Xavier on Saturday, Feb. 22.
