The Basics
Drake men's tennis has one match this at 2 p.m. this Saturday at Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bulldogs by the Numbers
The Bulldogs hold a 3-6 record on the season and are looking to break a four-game losing streak. Drake has encountered stiff competition recently, facing Big Ten schools in two of their last four matches. The last Bulldogs' road win was a 4-3 decision at Marquette on January 31.
Despite the recent losses, the Bulldogs have won three weekly awards. Two weeks ago,
Ben Johnson and
Will Ecklund won Summit League Peak Team of the Week for the second consecutive week, and Ecklund won Singles Player of the Week.
Scouting the Competition
Xavier men's tennis is also 3-6 on the season. The team's last win came on Feb. 15 against Ball State, playing at a neutral site. Xavier's other two wins have been over Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky. Last season, Xavier went 4-18 and lost in the first round of the Big East conference tournament.
Ryan Cahill, a senior from Illinois, occupies Xavier's top singles spot. Pending the results of Xavier's match today against Northern Kentucky, Cahill is on a five-game losing streak, with his last win coming over Lipscomb on January 24. Cahill competes alongside Charlie Temming in the No. 1 doubles court. The duo's last win came two matches ago against Cleveland State.
Drake and Xavier men's tennis have never played each other.
