DES MOINES, Iowa — The Bulldogs lost 1-6 to Creighton today, and
Will Ecklund's singles win was the match highlight for Drake. With the loss, Drake falls to 3-5 on the season and 2-1 at home.
The Bulldogs fought hard against the Blue Jays in the doubles point after going down 1-0. Creighton's Alejandro Gandini and Yuma Daijima defeated
Aaron Dawson and
Christian Winstead 6-2, but
Ben Johnson and Ecklund backed up their teammates with a 6-3 win over Ethan Neil and Rocky McKenzie in the top doubles position. A few minutes later, Creighton sealed the doubles point; Kirtal Patel and Zachary Kuo took down
Jose Alessandro Hernandez and
Adan Tarquino.
In singles play, Ecklund won over Neil in three sets. Ecklund got off to a strong start, winning 6-2 in the first set, but Neil hit hard in the second set, winning 6-0. Ecklund, however, regained control in the third set and won 6-1. The other five singles matches concluded in straight sets.
After this brief home stint, the Bulldogs will hit the road again and play at Indiana University on Friday, February 14.
