DES MOINES, Iowa — The Bulldogs completed a sweep of the midweek doubleheader against Chicago State. Drake won the first match 7-0 and the second 5-0.

The Bulldogs quickly secured the match's first point after
Adan Tarquino and
Jose Alessandro Hernandez defeated Andrei-Rares Negrut and Logan Daily 6-0. Chicago State only traveled with four players, so they forfeited the final doubles match, giving Drake the match's first point.
The Bulldogs automatically received two match points due to a forfeit on the fifth and sixth singles courts.
Logan Tomovski,
Aaron Dawson and
Ben Johnson all won in straight sets. Johnson defeated Reed Gahagan (6-0, 6-2), Dawson defeated Negrut (6-2, 6-0) and Tomovski defeated Daily in a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Hernandez topped off the 7-0 team victory with a three-set win over Chad Valdes. Hernandez won the first set 6-3, but Valdes evened the contest with a 7-5 second set win. Hernandez brought the victory home with a 10-7 tiebreaker win.
Drake 5, Chicago State 0
Drake won the doubles point in the second match with another 6-0 win and a forfeit victory. This time, Dawson and Lau delivered the Bulldogs the shutout victory and the doubles point.
The Bulldogs won on the final two courts due to forfeit, immediately giving them a 3-0 lead. Johnson gave the Bulldogs their fourth match point after winning the first set 6-0 before his opponent retired from the match in the second set. Dawson handed Drake its fifth point with a statement 6-0, 6-0 win over Daily.
Christian Winstead and
Will Ecklund won the first set of their matches 6-0, but they went unfinished after Drake won.
