Gold Medal Couple Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall to Compete at 2025 Drake Relays

Paris Olympic and Paralympic champions to lace up their spikes on the Blue Oval

DES MOINES, Iowa – Track and field husband-and-wife duo Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall will showcase their gold medal-winning talents as part of the 2025 Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom. Tara and Hunter will compete in the women's long jump and men's 400, respectively, as part of the Relays' 16-event World Athletics Continental Tour series.

"The Drake Relays have long been a beacon of track and field greatness, and that tradition will be upheld in 2025," said Boldon, Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays said. "Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall are not only two of the most talented athletes on the planet, but their charismatic energy is sure to captivate Relays fans. Their ability to entertain transcends their individual events and we know fans are in for a treat."

Tara Davis-Woodhall was the 2024 Olympic gold medalist in the women's long jump and earned the same result at the 2024 World Indoor Championships. She had previously won silver at the 2023 World Outdoor Championships and was sixth in the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo. Tara was a 2021 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor long jump title winner while competing for the University Texas. The three-time U.S. champion earned those honors at the 2024 indoor championships and Olympic trials and 2023 outdoor championships.

Davis-Woodhall holds the second-best American indoor jump of all time at 7.18m/23'-6.75", which is also her personal record. That mark trails only three-time Olympic gold medalist, seven-time World Championship goal medalist, and 2013 Drake Relays champion Brittney Reese. Reese also holds the Drake Relays record of 6.74m/22'-1.5" which will be in jeopardy in 2025. Tara currently serves as an assistant coach on the Kansas State University track and field team.

Hunter Woodhall has also enjoyed his fair share of success as a paralympic champion. Woodhall was born with fibular hemimelia, a disease which prevents proper development of the lower extremities, which resulted in the double amputation of his legs below the knees. He now competes in the T62 paralympic class, and on Saturday, Apr. 24, Hunter will be taking on some of the world's best in the men's 400 meters as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour.

As a collegiate standout at the University of Arkansas, Woodhall was a three-time All-American as part of the Razorbacks' 4x400m relay teams and finished as high as fourth place in the SEC Championships when he ran his collegiate best 400-meter time of 46.22.

Woodhall has competed in three paralympic games as a member of Team USA. He earned a gold medal in the 400 at the 2024 games in Paris along with a bronze in the co-ed 4x100 relay and sixth place in the 100m dash. He made the podium four years prior with a bronze medal in 2021 Paralympics in Tokyo and added an eighth-place finish in the 100. Hunter's first paralympic foray came in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro when he was just a single-leg amputee competing in the T44 division. In Rio, Woodhall was a member of the silver medal-winning 4x100 team and captured another 400m bronze. He has also won six total medals at the Para World Championships.

"We are excited to be a part of the prestigious Drake Relays this year," Tara and Hunter said in a joint statement. "It's an exciting time for us as we can, for the first time, compete together at the competition as Olympic champions. We look forward to seeing our fans and performing for them."

The WACT women's long jump is set to begin at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 26 while the WACT men's 400 will run later that afternoon at 3:23 p.m. The remainder of those fields, as well as the entire professional lineup, will be announced in the coming days. The entire current Relays schedule can be found here.
