Will Ecklund has been named to the 2024-25 Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, the conference announced earlier this week.
Ecklund, who was also named to Summit League All-Academic Team this year, also earned Summit League Singles Player of the Week and member of Summit League Doubles Team of the Week once throughout the season.
He played to 9-8 overall record, all in singles play...went 1-0 at No. 3, 0-1 at No. 4, 3-2 at No. 5, and 5-4 at No. 6.
The Summit League released a list of more than 900 student-athletes named to the 2024-25 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence Thursday as that number grew by nearly 100 from a season ago. The list includes student-athletes from the League's nine member institutions and seven associate members competing in 17 different sports.
Qualifications
- In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, the student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA, have used a year of eligibility and completed three full semesters or five quarters at the nominating institution.
- Student-athletes having a 3.9 or higher cumulative career grade-point average are designated with an asterisk to indicate "with distinction."
By The Numbers
- A total of 955 student-athletes across 17 sports were honored on the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. A total of 379 selections earned the "with distinction" accolade.
- South Dakota turned in the highest number of selections "with distinction" at 58, while North Dakota State was second in the category with 50 and St. Thomas was third with 47.
- St. Thomas held the most total selections with 178, while South Dakota followed in second with 153 and South Dakota State capped the top three with 124.
- The Tommies also had the most total number of student-athletes on the list of honorees with 158 while South Dakota followed in second with 134 and North Dakota State was third with 109.
- For the third time overall, the North Dakota State Bison received the Summit League Institutional Academic Achievement Award (2019-20; 2020-2021). NDSU had 66.5 percent of their list-eligible student-athletes earn the academic excellence accolade.
- The League awards Team Academic Achievement honors for each sport based on the percentage of list-eligible student-athletes on the Commissioner's List. North Dakota paced those efforts with five of their squads earning a team title, while North Dakota State had four and Oral Roberts had three teams earn the accolade.
