MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In its second straight road contest to open the 2025 season, the Drake University men's soccer team came away with a 3-3 draw against the Marquette Golden Eagles. Both squads scored a pair of first half goals before each netting a second half tally to reach the final result.
Junior midfielder
Jackson Kirsch had a busy night for the Dogs after logging a goal and tallying an assist for a 3-point affair. Kirsch scored Drake's first goal of the night off an assist from
Evan Carlson in the 18th minute. He later earned an assist on sophomore
Preston Kipnusu's go-head goal in the 71st frame.
Along with Kipnusu, transfer
Mamadou Sow netted his first goal of the season to tie the game just before halftime in the 44th stanza.
Cole Schrage picked up the assist on Sow's goal.
The host Golden Eagles eventually scored a pair of go-ahead goals in the first half with Justin Milovanov in the 7th minute and Mads Horgoien in the 38th. Despite being shown a red card shortly after Kipnusu's goal, Marquette found the man-down equalizer in the 86th minute to force the draw.
"We're disappointed with the result," Drake head coach
Pat Flinn said. "We grew as a team tonight, fought back from two deficits and ultimately had the lead in a game we should see out. We will learn and move forward."
The Bulldogs are set to follow up back-to-back road games with a pair of home games. Drake will host its home opener against Graceland (Aug. 31) before sticking around to host Omaha (Sept. 3).
