Men's Soccer Preview: DePaul & Oral Roberts

Drake to start three-game homestand

The Basics
Drake men's soccer is back home for three straight games at Mediacom Stadium including its next two against DePaul (Sep. 13) and Oral Roberts (Sep. 20)

Bulldog Breakdown
Drake went 1-0-1 last week as it wrapped a two-game road trip at Tulsa and Kansas City. The Bulldogs stormed back to beat the Golden Hurricane with an 84th minute Jackson Kirsch penalty kick before battling a talented Roos squad to a scoreless draw.

Drake's next two matches will be the final home non-conference games of the 2025 season.

Scouting DePaul
The DePaul University men's soccer team has opened the 2025 season with a 2-0-4 record, remaining unbeaten but still seeking consistency. In non-conference play, the Blue Demons drew 3-3 against Purdue Fort Wayne and 1-1 with Oakland before earning their first win, a 2-1 victory over cross-town foe Chicago State on August 28. They followed that up with another 2-1 win against Loyola Chicago on Sep. 7. Across their opening matches, DePaul has scored 10 goals while conceding eight, showing an ability to generate offense but also leaving room for defensive improvement as Big East competition approaches.

Drake holds a narrow 8-7-2 advantage all-time over DePaul. The Bulldogs won 2-1 last year to snap a three game Blue Demon winning streak in the series.

Key Players
Keagan Pace - 8 PTS, 4 G
Luca Iaccino – 4 PTS, 2 G
Christian Baumgartner – 3 PTS, G, A
Santiago Davila – 9 SV, .600 SV%

Scouting Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts is 1-4-1 overall, still without a conference match to date. Their lone win came at UTRGV, 2-1, while they drew with Cal State Fullerton and lost to CSUN, Wake Forest, SMU, and Houston Christian. Offensively, ORU has scored six goals and allowed 11, with Emilio Cazares leading with 2 goals and 1 assist so far. Their goalkeeping has been mixed: Jakub Grzesiak has started most games while backup keepers have seen limited time. On the road, the team is 1-3 so far, and at home 0-1-1.

Drake also leads its all-time series with Oral Roberts by a 6-4-1 margin, but the Golden Eagles have had the recent edge, winning the last three bouts. Drake's last victory marked the end of a five-game winning streak with a 3-2 road dub in 2011.

Leonardo de Almeida Seixas – 3 PTS, G, A
Emmanuel Denis – 3 PTS, G, A

Jakub Grzesiak – 14 SV, .667 SV%
