The Bulldogs opened their fall 2025 season with two competitions: the River Forest Invite in River Forest, Illinois, and Drake Flights in Des Moines, Iowa. It was a successful weekend for Drake, with multiple Bulldogs winning championships or securing tournament placements.
River Flights
Drake's fall competition officially began on Friday, September 12, in River Forest, Illinois, competing against Saint Louis, Marquette, Washington University, Western Michigan, UIC, and Summit League opponent Illinois State. The highlights of the tournament were
Alan Gonzalez finishing in third place in the second singles flight,
Ben Johnson making it to the semifinals of the third singles flight, and every duo going 1-1 in doubles.
On his path to third place, Gonzalez defeated two opponents in straight sets. He took down Colin Scruggs from Washington University 6-1, 6-3, and Mihailo Savic from UIC 7-5, 6-3.
Drake Flights
The Bulldogs competed against Grinnell and Gustavus Adolphus in the Drake Flights on Saturday, September 13. The team went 5-1 in singles play, with
Christian Winstead securing a 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 win and a 6-3, 6-4 win. Freshman
Max Goldemberg secured another victory for the Bulldogs, 6-2, 6-2. And freshman
Arin Menon picked up two wins, one in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, and a comeback victory 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
After the victories, Winstead and Menon won singles championships, and Goldemberg made it to the finals.
