ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Drake women's soccer team had a pair of players garner Missouri Valley Conference weekly awards, the league announced on Tuesday morning.
Eve Blakey was named Player of the Week and
Alanna Pennington was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Blakey was the offensive for force the Bulldogs in their 5-1 conference opening win over Valparaiso. The Newcastle, England native scored a pair of goals against the Beacons marking her third contest this season with multiple goals in a match. Blakey ripped off seven shots against Valpo and had six attempts come on target. The senior now has seven goals on the year, which is the second most in the MVC. This marks the second Player of the Week honor for Blakey this season.
Pennington also joined in on the scoring action against the Beacons with her first goal of the season. The local product from Ankeny, Iowa, netted a header off a free kick set piece in the second half in the match versus Valparaiso. Pennington also played a key role playing all 90 minutes for the Bulldogs backline that held the Beacon attack to just six shots in the match.
Drake returns to the pitch later this week with a road match against Belmont on Thursday. Kickoff against the Bruins is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
