Men's Tennis Preview: Chicago State & Saint Louis

Bulldogs return home looking to extend six-match winning streak

The Basics

Drake men's tennis will remain at home this weekend for a pair of matches at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The Bulldogs will face Chicago State Cougars on Friday, Feb. 20 at 4:30 p.m., before taking on the Saint Louis Billikens on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Fans can follow both matches through the live scoring links available on the Drake men's tennis schedule page.

Bulldog Breakdown

Drake enters the weekend with a 6-2 overall record and will look to extend its current six-match winning streak. The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant Sunday doubleheader at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center, where they swept Grand View and William Woods by identical 7-0 scores.

The pair of shutouts marked Drake's longest winning streak since the 2018 season. Across the six-match stretch, the Bulldogs have secured multiple sweeps and have shown consistency throughout the lineup in both doubles and singles play.

Drake has been perfect at home this season, and will look to carry that momentum into another weekend in Des Moines.

Scouting Chicago State

Chicago State enters Friday's match with a 1-6 overall record but is coming off its first win of the season, a 4-0 victory over Southern University last Saturday.

The Cougars are led by Director of Tennis Keiran President, who joined the program in January 2025 after a successful stint at McPherson College. President guided McPherson to multiple top-20 ITA rankings and three consecutive KCAC men's titles from 2022-24 and was named the 2023 KCAC Men's Coach of the Year. A native of Saint Lucia, President is also a member of the Saint Lucian national tennis team.

Friday's contest will test a Chicago State squad looking to build momentum after a slow start to the spring.

Scouting Saint Louis

Saint Louis enters the weekend with a 2-5 record but carries a two-match winning streak after defeating Washington University, 5-2, last weekend.

Head coach James Tobin is in his second season leading the Billikens. Tobin previously served as an assistant at Lindenwood and brings extensive coaching experience in the St. Louis area, as well as international experience from his native Australia. He played collegiately at Missouri Baptist, where he was a two-time All-Conference selection and team captain.

The Billikens rebounded from an 0-5 start and will aim to continue their upward trend Saturday morning in Des Moines.

Following this weekend's matches, Drake will head back on the road. The Bulldogs are set to face Xavier Musketeers on Friday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m., before taking on the Northern Kentucky Norse on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.
