The Summit League announced Tuesday that Drake men's tennis junior Ben Johnson has been selected as the Kwik Star Summit League Tennis Singles Peak Performer of the Week following a pair of key victories during the Bulldogs' home weekend.
Johnson went 2-0 in singles play from the No. 3 position, helping Drake secure wins over Marquette and Creighton at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
On Friday against Marquette, Johnson battled back after dropping the first set to defeat Remi St. Laurent, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. His victory helped propel Drake to a 7-0 sweep of the Golden Eagles and marked one of four three-set wins in the match.
Johnson followed with another strong performance Sunday against Creighton, earning a straight-set win over Zachary Kuo, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. His victory was one of four singles wins in Drake's 4-3 comeback victory over the Bluejays.
The Bulldogs will return to action Friday, Feb. 6, when they travel to Evansville, Ind., to take on Southern Indiana.
