EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Drake men's tennis earned its fourth straight victory and second of the weekend in Evansville, defeating Austin Peay, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Governors dropped to 1-3.
Drake secured the doubles point early, taking wins on courts two and three. Alan Gonzalez and Benjamin Johnson cruised to a 6-3 victory over Lu Wei Hsin and Glen Arnet at No. 2 doubles, while Arin Menon and Alex Yeager topped Bodi Van Galen and Lucas Ranciaro, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.
"We played smart doubles today," said Drake head coach Justin Stuckey. "It was a complete team win."
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into singles play, claiming three more victories to complete the sweep. Menon opened singles competition at No. 6, defeating Van Galen, 6-3, 6-2. Samuel Melaga followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ranciaro at No. 5 singles. Jose Alessandro Hernandez Frias closed out the scoring at No. 4 singles, defeating Felipe De La Hormaza, 6-1, 6-3.
"Austin Peay did not make it easy on us in singles," Stuckey added. "It was good to see us play the important points well today."
The win marks Drake's fourth consecutive victory and caps a successful road weekend in Evansville. The Bulldogs will return home to continue their season with a doubleheader against Grand View and William Woods on Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
