Bulldog Breakdown
Drake enters Monday's contest with a 12-2 overall record and will look to extend its current 12-match winning streak. The Bulldogs are coming off a convincing 6-1 home victory over Grinnell Pioneers on March 9 at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Drake secured the doubles point before winning five of six singles matches to clinch the result. Several Bulldogs battled back after dropping opening sets, showcasing the team's depth and resilience throughout the lineup. The win also kept Drake perfect at home this season as the Bulldogs continue to build momentum heading into another road test.
Scouting the Northern Illinois Huskies
Northern Illinois enters the matchup with an 11-3 overall record. The Huskies most recently earned a 4-3 road victory over Western Michigan Broncos on March 12.
The Huskies are led by head coach René Vidal, who took over the program midway through the 2024 season and quickly guided the team to five straight dual-match victories. Northern Illinois finished 12-3 under Vidal during his first season and placed second in the Mid-American Conference regular-season standings before qualifying for the MAC Tournament. Three Huskies earned conference honors, including Saul Berdullas, who was named MAC Freshman of the Year.
Prior to Northern Illinois, Vidal served as head coach at McKendree, where he led the program to its first GLVC Championship and a Top 25 national ranking. He has also helped multiple programs achieve conference championships and NCAA postseason success during his coaching career.
