DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake men's tennis pushed its winning streak to 12 matches Monday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Grinnell at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The Bulldogs improved to 12-2 overall, while the Pioneers fell to 7-3.
Drake secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The pairing of Ulysse Verrando and Adan Tarquino opened the afternoon with a 6-1 win over Lucas Willett and Thomas Bostoen. Max Goldemberg and Sam Melaga followed with a 6-3 victory against Gervase Ngo and Garvin Murray at the No. 3 position. The No. 2 doubles match between Alex Yeager and Arin Menon and Maxi Gutbezahl and Jackson Doane was left unfinished with Drake leading 5-4.
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into singles play, claiming five of the six matches.
Arin Menon was first off the court with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Henry Park at the No. 3 position. Alessandro Hernandez added another point shortly after with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Maxi Gutbezahl at No. 2 singles.
Sam Melaga secured the match for Drake at the top spot, rallying after dropping the first set to defeat Lucas Willett 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. The victory allowed Melaga to remain undefeated in singles matches this season.
Alex Yeager added a comeback win at No. 4 singles, rebounding from a first-set loss to defeat Garvin Murray 1-6, 6-0, 6-4. Max Goldemberg also battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Gervase Ngo at No. 6.
Grinnell's lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Devansh Punjabi edged Adan Tarquino in three sets.
Drake will look to continue its strong run of form when the Bulldogs travel to face Northern Illinois on Monday, March 16.
