Rowing Preview: SIRA Championship Regatta

Bulldogs set to test new lineups against strong field in Oak Ridge

The Basics

Drake Rowing is set to compete in the SIRA Championship Regatta this weekend at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Bulldogs will race a first varsity eight and a novice four against strong competition at one of the program's most tradition-rich regattas.

Drake's varsity eight is scheduled to race Saturday at 11:02 a.m. in the Women's Varsity 8+ Open. The Bulldogs' novice four will compete Sunday at 9:52 a.m. in the Women's Novice 4+ Open A Final.

Head Coach Charlie DiSilvestro on the Race

"We're excited to compete at the SIRA Regatta. It's a strong regatta with a lot of tradition, and it gives us a great chance to see where we stand against good competition. We'll race our varsity eight and novice four this weekend, and after making some selection changes over the past two weeks, we're excited to see how those new lineups perform. The team is excited, the coaches are excited, and we're looking forward to a great weekend of racing."

Last Time Out

Drake last competed at the Lubbers Cup in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where the Bulldogs faced a strong field in a full day of heats and finals. The varsity four and novice four turned in Drake's top performances of the day, with the varsity four finishing second in its final and the novice four taking third. The varsity eight also advanced out of its heat and placed fourth in the final, while the Bulldogs gained valuable experience against high-level competition heading into this weekend.
