DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's tennis team concluded the 2025-26 season with the No. 8 ranking in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced today.
"The men had a really good year," Drake head coach
Justin Stuckey said. "To have several newcomers and to play on average 9 players [per] game really speaks to how much they all worked together to make this happen."
The Bulldogs set a new program record for win streak and win streak to open the season at 14 straight to start the season this year.
They were led by
Sam Melaga, who was named 1st team All-Summit league, and
Alan Gonzalez, who was also an All-Summit League performer. Melaga capped his freshman campaign with a ranking of 12th in the central region year end rankings in singles.
"Congratulations to Sam," Stuckey added. "Sam joined us in the spring semester, and ending the season ranked 12th in the region as a freshman really speaks to just how much he accomplished this year."
