The Basics
The Drake women's soccer team is ready to take the pitch for the first time at Mediacom Stadium this season as it begins a five-match homestand starting this week. The Bulldogs will welcome Iowa State for its home opener on Thursday, Aug. 20 with a 5 p.m. kickoff and then will host St. Thomas (MN) on Sunday, August 23 at 1 p.m.
Bulldogs by the Numbers
The Bulldogs opened their 2026 campaign this past week with a road trip to the Rocky Mountains and fell to Wyoming and Colorado College by a scores of 1-0 in both contests. Drake's offense registered 12 shots over the two away matches and had four attempts come on target, but no goals scored. In net,

Kate Hopma also tallied four saves against Colorado College.

Scouting Iowa State
The Cyclones started their 2026 season with a pair of victories over Omaha and Kansas City last week. Iowa State earned a 1-0 victory over the Mavericks on the road and then cruised to a 4-0 win over the Roos from Ames. The Cyclones were selected to finish 16th in the Big 12 Preseason Poll and ISU welcomes 15 newcomers to its roster in 2026, seven of whom are Power 4 transfers.
The Bulldogs carry an all-time record of 4-7-5 against the Cyclones. Last season the two sides tied 1-1 in Ames. Lucy Froitzheim scored for ISU in the final minute of the game to secure the draw.

Scouting St. Thomas
The Tommies will make the trip to Des Moines having played just one game in their 2026 season which was a 4-0 defeat at home to Marquette last week. St. Thomas is under the current leadership of assistant coach Becca Brandt as head coach Gretta Macdonald is on leave of absence to care for a family member experiencing a health concern. The Tommies return 15 to the squad and have added 10 new additions and were picked eighth in the Summit League preseason poll.
The all-time series between Drake and St. Thomas is even at 1-1-2. The last two meetings between the Bulldogs and Tommies (2023 & 2024) have resulted in draws. Drake's lone win over St. Thomas came in 2021 from Des Moines.
