Prior to Drake: Joseph was a two-sport athlete in high school, earning varsity letters in basketball and track and field. He only competed in track and field his senior year, earning a medal at the Drake Relays in the 4x400, and 3 medals at the Iowa State Meet in the 4x400, Distance Medley, and 4x200. His parents, Anne and Bradley Kruse, both competed in track at the collegiate level, and his two younger brothers Ted and Matthew also run track.
