After one year with the Bulldogs on the court, Ayo Akinwole joined the Drake men's basketball staff as a graduate assistant in 2022 before being promoted to assistant director of operations once obtaining his master's degree.
Akinwole made 52 starts across four seasons for Omaha and helped the Mavericks to the Summit League title game in 2019. His best season was his senior year when he averaged 13.0 points and 2.9 assists.
The Nebraska native grad-transferred to Drake for the 2021-22 campaign where he contributed an average of 3.2 points and 1.8 assists in a reserve point guard role.
