Michael Johnson joined the Drake University cross country and track & field staff in 2021 as a volunteer assistant coach.
Johnson was previously a graduate assistant at Auburn University at Montgomery where he coached three all-conference performers in cross country. He also mentored a school record holder and helped the program's cross country team finished fourth at the Gulf South Conference Championship in its first season as an NCAA Division II program.
The Alabaster, Ala., native competed at the University of Montevallo where he earned a degree in kinesiology and was a two-time all-conference selection in cross country. His performances rank in the all-time top 10 at Montevallo at the 8k distance.
He is currently pursuing a master's degree in exercise physiology from Auburn University at Montgomery.
