James Wypych joined the Drake coaching staff in August 2020. Wypych spent three seasons with the Bulldogs from 2014-2016, after transferring from the University of New Mexico. Scoring 20 goals in his college career, he helped Drake to their third NCAA tournament win at Kentucky in the 2015 NCAA tournament first round.
Wypych, a native of New Zealand, played for Miramar Rangers and Team Wellington as a youth player, and made multiple appearances with the U-17 National Team. He spent a year at Ole Football Academy before beginning his studies in the United States.
Graduating with a degree in International Relations, Wypych currently works at VoteSmart, a non-partisan voter-education organization. He also works as a youth coach at Sporting Iowa and the Iowa Olympic Development Program.
