Kyle Smith

Kyle Smith has served as the assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Drake University in two stints spanning 8 seasons, returning to Des Moines in the Spring of 2016. During this time Drake has qualified for eight Missouri Valley Conference post season tournaments and reached five MVC semi-final appearances. Along the way Drake has recorded three victories over top 25 opponents, 32 players have received All-MVC awards for their efforts on the field, two MLS draft selections and one MVC player of the year award.
 
Smith is involved in all facets of the program, coaching, recruiting, fundraising, academic monitoring, budgeting and scheduling. Academic success continues to define the Bulldogs team with an average G.P.A of 3.40 and Drake student-athletes have been recognized with 11 COSIDA Academic All-District honors and 27 academic all-conference awards.
 
Prior to his return to Drake University, Smith led Cumberland University as the Head Coach for three seasons (2013-2015), capped by compiling a school record for most wins of 18-2-1 overall record and winning the 2015 Mid-South Conference Tournament. During his tenure, Cumberland accomplished many school records and firsts in the program’s history; Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship, National Tournament host, most wins in a season, highest RPI ranking No. 8, No. 19 final season poll, one All-American selection, most goals and best goal differential in a season.
 
Smith’s collegiate playing career began at the University of Charleston before he transferred to Lambuth University for his final two seasons. Kyle has 15 years of college coaching experience, he holds a USSF National ‘B’ coaching license, USSF National Youth License, a B.A. in Health and Human Performance, and a MAT degree in Exercise Science.
 
Kyle and his wife Stacey have two children, George and Lydia.
