    Volunteer Assistant Coach

Trevor Richards, a former All-Big Eight Conference performer for Iowa State, is in his 13th year as a volunteer coach, guiding the pole vaulters.

Richards won the gold medal in the masters 40 age division at the World Masters Track and Field Championships in August 2007 in Riccione, Italy, soaring 15 feet, 1 inch.

During his tenure at Drake, Richards coached Johanna Sprang to school indoor and outdoor records in the women's pole vault, breaking those of Jessica Hetcko, a three-time all-league honoree whom he also coached.

Under Richard's tutelage, pole vaulter Joel Lelacheur qualified for two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Midwest Regionals in 2003 and 2004, while setting a Drake freshman record at 16-2.  He also finished second at the 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships and third in 2003.

Richards coached Garrick Wilson, the indoor and outdoor school record holder in the men's pole vault and Ian Tullberg, who was the 1996 MVC Champion in the decathlon.

Richards, a native of Columbus, Ohio, was captain of the 1990 Iowa State Track team and finished third in the Big Eight Conference outdoor meet that year.  He owns the Iowa State school indoor (17-0.5) and outdoor (17-5) records set in 1991.
