Biography

Honored in August 2009 with the Tim and Jerry Howlett Award as Drake's top female student-athlete for 2008-09...team co-captain and returning veteran who is a three-year letterwinner.

2009-10 — Rower on women's open four A squad which won division at Great Plains Rowing Championships...rower on third place varsity eight and varsity four teams at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship...member of the varsity eight which finished third at the Sacred Heart Invitational...named to MAAC All-Academic Team...letterwinner...Summer 2009 — Trained at USRowing Lightweight Pre-Elite Sculling Camp in the Bronx, New York while finishing second in the lightweight women's single sculls at USRowing's U-23 world championship trials...2008-09 — Third seat of Varsity 4 boat which placed third at 2009 Dad Vail Regatta for the highest Drake team finish ever...also on varsity four which won grand final at Midwest Intercollegiate Rowing Championships beating Tulsa and Southern Methodist...letterwinner...High School — Rowed for Minneapolis Rowing Club in high school and attended Edina High School.

Personal — Biochemistry, cell and molecular biology major...named one of 14 top Drake juniors for 2008-09 and one of 16 top sophomores in 2007-08...named recipient of the MVC Good Neighbor Award for spring 2009...recipient of Drake Presidential Scholarship...selected as a Peer Mentor Academic Counselor (PMAC)...serves as social chair for both Beta Beta Beta, a Biology Honor Society and the Drake Student Athlete Advisory Council...daughter of Art Smith and Deb Hammer...born Chelsea Lynn Smith on March 8, 1988.
