Jay Brummel began as the Associate Athletics Director for Finance and Operations at Drake in December of 2021. He was promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Finance and Operations in August of 2025.

Prior to arriving at Drake, Jay Brummel spent the previous seven years at the University of Michigan in a variety of Athletic Administrative roles. Most recently, he served as the Facility Manager for Crisler Center & the William Davidson Player Development Center where he managed a 12,000+ seat arena, practice courts, weight room, coaches/staff offices, and production studio.  In years prior, Jay oversaw gameday operations at Michigan Stadium, which included not only every home football game, but also commencement, special events, and even international soccer competitions.  Consequently, Jay served as liaison and primary contact for visiting teams, officials, TV, and game personnel while also overseeing the gameday budget, parking, guest services, event staff, and security.  Jay was also the lead coordinator for the Michigan Event Team, Camp Administrator, Event Manager for sports (Baseball, Wrestling, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis), and one of the lead organizers for the Big House 5k.
 
Prior to his time in Ann Arbor, Jay also held roles at Indiana University as an Assistant Game Manager, UBS Financial Services, and the Iowa Sports Foundation. 
 
A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jay attended Iowa State University before transferring to Butler University and earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He was a member of the football team at both Iowa State and a 3-year letter winner at Butler. He went on to receive a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Indiana University and his MBA from Drake University in December 2024.
